After the transfer of the Vet School's reference books over to the West Cambridge Hub (a short walk away), the library space remained unused and redundant until earlier this year.
Camvet undertook to refurbish it and after consulting with teaching staff and students transformed the redundant library into a vibrant study and small group teaching area. Round tables allow small group study, desk spaces with acoustic screens allow individuals to work undisturbed and upstairs the whole area can be rearranged to allow for group teaching and CPD sessions.
Thanks to a fundraiser by our 1973 alumni, we were also able to provide the full range of BSAVA manuals for quick study reference.
Each floor has comfortable bench seating - ideal for group chats or just having a quiet time.
Here's what the students think about it:
'On behalf of the current Cambridge vet cohorts, a heartfelt thank you for providing us with our wonderful library space. You’ve absolutely nailed the balance between quiet and calm while still being warm and inviting (much like our Vet School). I’ve already enjoyed using it a few times and will certainly make a habit of it with sixth year fast approaching!
Beyond quiet study, staff and students have found the space lends itself to many purposes - we’ve done a few theory-based practicals in there which worked nicely amongst the books, posters and teaching models. I can assure you it’ll be well used for generations to come. We are incredibly grateful!'
