Earlier this year, Camvet paid for three Vet School students to attend the first round of the British Veterainary Association awards. The students had submitted a research proposal but were doubtful that they would succeed.
However. . .huge congratulations are now due to Rudi Bruijn-Yard, Shreya Patel and Francesca Haldane, who have won the inaugural Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) Global Veterinary Challenge Award at the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Awards in Birmingham last week.
Their innovative proposal to tackle Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in goats in Uganda has secured funding of up to £100,000 for implementation by Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS).
PPR is a devastating disease with mortality rates of over 90%, threatening livestock, livelihoods and food security across many parts of the world. The team's project combines vaccination, education and community engagement to help build sustainable local capacity for disease control.
This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the talent, ambition and global outlook of our vet students. We're incredibly proud to see Cambridge veterinary students developing solutions with the potential to make a genuine difference to animal health and farming communities around the world.
